Is Tupperware replacement available after 20 years? Do old Tupperware pieces have BPA in them? Check out below as I navigate whether or not Tupperware will stand by their Lifetime Tupperware Warranty.
It occurred to me the other day − while trying to gauge whether an overused, label-less measuring spoon was a tablespoon or half a tablespoon − that all the Tupperware I collected in my teens has a Tupperware Lifetime Warranty on it.

I vaguely remember a Tupperware Consultant spouting this information out as I thumbed through their catalog years ago, stuffing my face with homemade dips at one of the many household Tupperware parties I've attended.
But I must have made one too many of my grandmother's Strawberry Shortcakes because the blue labeling has worn off... leaving me to guess at the sizes (perhaps that's why recipes like Martha Tiramisu Cookies never turned out for me? Nah, but it's nice to blame something besides my own lack of baking skills).
After a quick inventory of my cupboards, I found three other Tupperware items that were worse for wear:- a container that had a spider web-like shattering on one side
- a small bowl whose plastic lip had broken off
- a measuring cup that was warped
Sounds like it's time to experiment: exactly how limited is the Tupperware Lifetime Warranty?
Pssst: Can't get your items replaced through the warranty (i.e. the most cost-effective way)? Then check out this listing of Tupperware Replacement Lids. You can also find Tupperware replacement parts.
How Do I Replace Broken Tupperware? Start with the Tupperware Warranty (in plain English)
You'll likely remember like I did, that there's a Tupperware guarantee. It's actually a Limited Lifetime Warranty (you'll see why below).
During my online chat with a representative, I found out the following information:
Tupperware Replacement Policy
"Tupperware® brand products are warranted by Tupperware against chipping, cracking, breaking or peeling under normal non-commercial use for the lifetime of the product. If, due to unavailability, actual product replacement cannot be made, comparable product replacement will be made, or credit toward future purchases of Tupperware® brand products will be given. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Warranty replacement items or parts will be subject to shipping and handling charges and applicable taxes."
Note: As of February, 2024, their lifetime warranty language has changed to this:
"LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY
Tupperware warrants that Tupperware® brand products that are subject to the Limited Lifetime Warranty will not chip, crack, break, peel or warp (as such terms are defined in the “Definitions” section below), when used under normal, non-commercial use, for the lifetime of the product. In the event of a product’s failure to meet the foregoing warranty, Tupperware, at its election, will either replace the affected product with a like or similar product or provide toward future purchases of Tupperware® brand products. This warranty does not cover damages arising from the exclusions set forth in the “All Warranties: Exclusions” section of this policy. Tupperware may require you to provide photographic or video evidence of the warranty may at its discretion require the product to be sent to Tupperware for evaluation of the validity of the warranty claim. You will be responsible for shipping and handling charges and applicable taxes relating to warranty replacement items or parts.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. THESE WARRANTIES ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."
Other things you should know about Tupperware's warranty:
- Specific Definitions: They offer specific definitions for each of those damages, and you should check those out.
- What's NOT Covered: Items that have been melted (for example, from your dishwasher), stained items (drats – spaghetti stains Tupperware pretty good!), discoloration, cuts/scratches, impact damage, prints/pouches/straps/taps.
- Item May Be Replaced with Something Else: If you're like me, then you've had your Tupperware pieces for a long time. Over the decades, they stop making certain pieces, or they modify them. So don't be surprised if you get something in new colors or something that is not an exact match to your old item.
- You Might Not Get a Value-in-Kind: Because they likely don't sell the same thing you own, they let you know that if the replacement item costs less in value than yours, there will be no refund of the difference. Also, if it costs more, you might have to pay the difference to get it.
Hint: Are you bummed your items don't qualify for replacement through warranty (i.e. the most cost-effective way)? Don't worry. You can still get replacements. Check out this listing of Replacement lids for Tupperware. You can also find Tupperware replacement parts.
UPDATED NOTE: Tupperware has officially filed for bankruptcy. I'll update any new information I find on honoring warranty requests as they work through this. UPDATED, August 2026: I said I'd report back on what happened after the bankruptcy, so here it is. A group of lenders bought the Tupperware brand in November 2024 and now runs it as Party Products LLC. The good news: the warranty survived. Tupperware's current policy, dated April 2026, says plainly that they'll honor the limited lifetime warranty that applied to your product.
What didn't survive is the process I describe below. The phone line, the mail-in factory address, the $5.75 flat fee – all gone. There's one way to file now, and it's an online form. I've left my original experience in place because it's a real record of how this used to work.
Tupperware Replacement Lids – Where Can I Get My Tupperware Replaced?
There's now exactly one way to file a warranty claim, and it's online. Tupperware's policy is explicit that the review requires photos and that it cannot be completed over the phone.
Have these ready before you start:
- A photo of the damaged item
- A photo of the stamp showing the year it was made
- Roughly when and where you bought it
- The mold number, or a description of the piece
Submit a warranty claim online.
One thing worth knowing before you file: how long you're covered now depends on a letter stamped on the piece itself:
- P is lifetime
- No symbol means 10 years from purchase
- Q is one year
- G is 30 days
- Z has no warranty at all
- Older pieces are grandfathered in under whatever applied when you bought them.
Tupperware says their team reviews it and emails you back in about 72 hours. And here's the part that surprised me most: what comes back is a voucher by email, not a replacement bowl in a box. You can combine up to five vouchers toward a single purchase.
- Search and purchase replacement lids through Amazon.com. I've curated a bunch of Tupperware replacement lids on this page for you.
And if nothing else works? Some people have reported having luck with these silicone stretch lids (BPA-free).
Are Old Tupperware Containers BPA-Free?
If you'd rather sidestep the question entirely, this is where we've been slowly replacing ours with glass containers – no leaching worry, and the lids are the only plastic left.
If you're like me, and you've had Tupperware pieces for decades, then you might be wondering whether or not those old pieces are BPA-free.
What is BPA? It's Bisphenol A, which is found in many plastic products (though not so much, anymore). Consumers have gotten smart about looking and demanding BPA-free plastics, and for good reason. Studies show that BPA is "linked to obesity in children and adults as well as to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, reproductive disorders, breast cancer, and more."
Here's the thing: Tupperware has officially said that all their containers are BPA-free as of March 2010.

What does that say to me? My opinion is that this means Tupperware pieces made before March 2010 may (and probably do – it was common practice to use BPA in plastics) have BPA in them.
Psst: an easy way to tell if your Tupperware container has BPA in it? Turn it over and look on the bottom. If there is a "7" inside the recycle symbol on the bottom (the triangle), then it likely contains BPA. BPA-free products will have a 1, 2, or 5 inside of that triangle.
That alone might make you want to replace your old Tupperware pieces, and if they're broken/peeled/etc. anyway, you could upgrade to a new, BPA-piece for just the cost of shipping and handling.
However, if your old Tupperware doesn't have anything wrong with it that's covered under the warranty, then you can't get it replaced for free due to it possibly having BPA.
But don't worry. You can still get replacements and replacement parts. Check out this listing of Replacement lids for Tupperware. You can also find Tupperware replacement parts.
Tupperware's Lifetime Warranty – Old Tupperware Exchange
Now I want to share with you my own experience to give you an idea of how the process works.
Based on what the Tupperware warranty covers, here's the rundown of items I wanted replaced:
- 1 Small, Microwavable Bowl with Tupperware Lid (chipped)
- 1 Large, Microwavable Container with Tupperware Lid (cracked)
- 1 Set of Measuring Cups (warped)
- 1 Set of Measuring Spoons (peeling)
Everything below is what happened when I actually did this. None of it is how the process works today – see the update at the top – but it's worth seeing what the warranty used to deliver.
Tried Two Different Replacement Methods (By Mail, and By Phone)
I didn't feel like tracking down a consultant (honestly, I would feel bad asking some random consultant to replace my items if I wasn't going to purchase other ones from her/him), so decided to attempt replacements by both mail and by phone for comparison purposes.
During our online chat, the representative told me that I could either call 1 (800) 887-7379 (the Tupperware replacement phone number) and they would place a special order to send me the replacement with a $5.75 shipping and handling fee (this is a flat fee for the entire order, not per product replaced. Awesome!).
Psst: I didn't have to ship anything in, but the rep said to keep the items for 30 days because they could request to see them during that time.
Or, I could ship the item myself to their factory at the following address with me paying to ship them, but paying no shipping and handling fee for the new replacements:
Tupperware
248 Tupperware Rd.
Hemingway, SC 29554.
Hint: they now also have a Canadian address:
Tupperware Warranty
c/o Purolator
22 Worcester Rd.
Etobicoke, Ontario M9W 5X2
- By Mail: I chose to ship the least expensive items to the warehouse, which were the small measuring spoons. I used an old envelope to mail them on February 20, 2016, for $2.54 (including tracking) through USPS. Also, I included a letter with my name, phone number, email address, and mailing address.
- By Phone: This left the measuring spoons, small bowl, and large container to handle over the phone. On February 29, 2016, I made the call. I had to let the person know each of the model numbers (thankfully located on the bottom of each piece of Tupperware). One item was not available, so they said to call back in a few days to see if it was available then (it was). Since they did not have it, they waived the shipping and handling fee on this order.
Note: The third option, which I chose not to take, is to find a consultant to give the items to. If you'd like to do this, go to www.Tupperware.com, and on the upper right, click "Find a Rep". From the comments we've received below of people's actual experience, it seems like whether or not you can get replacements through this way is up to the rep themselves, and the time they're willing to dedicate to it.

The Fresh-Leftovers Results
Just like the representative told me, the item I mailed took much longer to be replaced than the items I called in (42 looooooonnnng days. Good thing we had an alternate set of measuring spoons from my husband's bachelor pad days).
The items by phone arrived much more quickly, but not within the 9 days they had quoted me. Two boxes arrived on March 13, 2016, 13 days later. One of the containers came with the wrong-sized lid, so on March 14th I online chatted with them again. The rep sent the correct lid − no shipping charge to me − and that arrived 10 days later on March 24th.
Altogether, I ended up spending just $8.29 out of pocket for products that would have cost me $59.85 (of course I had paid for them at one point; but with my family's consulting discounts and 20 years' worth of inflation, I think I came out ahead).
Also, they never asked to see the items I was asking to have replaced...so I still have them as well. Score!
Time to conduct your own Tupperware Cupboard Audit? Here's a Few Tips
From going through the process, I've got a few tips for you:
- Batch Your Claims: Vouchers can be combined – up to five toward a single purchase. So go through your cabinets and get everything that needs to be replaced done at once to get the most bang for your buck.
- Log Your Year Stamp: Photograph the year stamp while the piece is already out of the cupboard, and check the letter stamp first so you know what you're entitled to before you file.
- Know the Functionality You're Looking to Replace: They didn't have one of my items, but I was able to ask for something that had a lid and was microwavable − the two things I had identified as most important to me.
Looking for Tupperware Replacement Lids – India?
One more thing – are you from India, and you're looking to replace your Tupperware lids? When I reached out years ago, they told me the process was about the same in all countries. That's no longer true – India still repairs or replaces the actual piece through a dealer, while the US and Canada moved to email vouchers. You can contact your dealer to get the replacement under the warranty in India, or you can go to this Tupperware contact page for help.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my transaction. And now I've got a few updated pieces of Tupperware in my cupboards!
So, how about it? Are you going to do a Tupperware audit? Let me know in the comments below what items you're getting replaced, and how the process goes for you!

I also would like others to know that you do not want to buy future Tupperware. Company is defunct. Waste of money.
I have been diligently trying to order replacement lids for my aged Modular Mates Tupperware since March 8, 2022. I see on their website they are selling Modular Mates containers.
When I ask to order cracked replacement lids the story is “upgrading system” and sometimes “must go through consultant”. Consultant replied to me by email??. Wanted pictures which I sent. Then she then simply ignored me, after follow ups on status. 800 number is worthless stating “unable to process”, this after long hold wait times. Online Customer service reply states warranties “on hold through March 27”. When I contacted again (several times over the weeks/months) received no further reply.
Reading other customer comments on this site helped me see the way and know I’m not alone.
Sad but true that I must toss my Tupperware with cracked lids that are piling up and taking up cupboard space.
I am so frustrated.
Amanda, Thank you for providing this platform.
Gah - Barbara, I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time getting your items replaced under their lifetime warranty. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@Amanda L Grossman,
Good news! Shortly after I wrote about my problems getting my Modular Mates replacements lids that were cracked I received my lids in the mail sent to me by Tupperware.
Here is how it happened and a little back story too.
There is a Sunday Syndicated Columnist in our Sunday Newspaper. His name is Christopher Elliott and he a consumer advocate and travel troubleshooter. His newspaper columns have tips abut going up the chain of command to solve customer problems. He has nothing to do with Tupperware but how he helps solve consumer problems gave me an idea!
I Googled the company for emails of Top Management. I send a short detailed message to the Vice President of Public Relations. I included my phone number, address and the exact number of lids I needed, including their mold numbers. I received a call personally from Tupperware very early the next morning! I also received a very nice email back from the VP. I received the lids within 7 days. All happy now. Maybe I was just lucky! I still think Tupperware is struggling and their future is uncertain.
How awesome, Barbara H! You took great initiative - I'm so glad you shared with us what you did, and who you got the idea from (and I'm glad you now have working modular mate Tupperware lids!).
You may want to remove this article as it is true that Tupperware representatives claim that "Tupperware is revamping its warranty and cannot send out replacements". They claim their internal system was redone and now representatives do not have the capability to help with "warranty" issues. My FIRST call to them was June 2021 and I was told in July the warranty thing would be resolved. I called in July2021 and was told August. I called in Aug2021, Sep2021 (3x) Nov2021 and Dec2021. I just tried today 3/24/22 (3x) and was placed on hold each time for :30 min. So obviously they aren't even answering the phone. This is truly a cluster with this Company and the items under warranty that I can no longer use probably won't get resolved - nor will I replace them with Tupperware. What a sham.
Hi Sienna - I'm so sorry you're having a lot of trouble/are unable to get your products replaced under their warranty. Thank you very much for sharing your experience so that others can read about it.
@Sienna D., not sure if you still have them but FINALLY they are just now 3/22 doing them!!! If you call expect a long wait on phone lines if you place after dinner and work, I was on hold 2 hours east coast they are open til 9pm so that helped some.
I have given cake containers and there lids bowls and storages containers and not one thing was replaced I gave them to party consultants I have more items and I won't get them back why bother Elaine bailey. Bailey-Elaine@hotmail.com
I'm sorry to hear that - did the party consultants update you with why they were denied?
Same issues as several comments. I was told to send in my list of parts. I delayed but finally did about 12 months ago. Then heard from them "we are updating our warranty process. We'll be in touch once that is done. That was about April 2021. 2 months later, same response. Rinse and repeat. I just waited on hold for 39 mins for someone to pick up. "Olivia" said it should be ready in a "few weeks." "If we haven't gotten back to you in a month, call us again."
I am looking for a social media place to blast them and possibly get a response. Any suggestions?
Drats - Casey. I'm sorry you've been essentially given the runaround (whether they meant for that to happen, or not). I actually am not aware of their social media accounts. Did you happen to look for a local representative near you? You might be able to contact them and ask about replacing some pieces under warranty (although...I guess Tupperware still has yours right now).
I have a pitcher that is brown that is probably 40 years old and it has a Crack in the bottom. So of course it leaks.
@Betty scott, they will replace that I believe it's very limited to cracking, peeling pretty much, but 3=22 I called in and was on or in que for 2 hours!!! (I did call like 7pm eastern time) so I'm betting that's the worst due to people working getting dinner and then calling in
Tupperware is switching to an online format…. At some point.
I have been trying to get a warranty replace for my hour glass salt and pepper set.
Now when you call they say that you can process your claim online, when they finally get it up and running. I have been waiting since summer of 2021…. The site is still not up, and they still say no replacements until it is.
Hi Nancy - thank you so much for the update! I hope they get the claim site up and running soon...
The 1800 phone number does not work! Th above mentions on the side of this page there is a chat line, no chat line icon shown! I tried looking for a representative in Australia, Queensland, Coolum Beach and also entered the post code - nothing can be found!
I am wanting to return a meat preserver bought many years ago that has shrunk and peeled.
Hi Karen - thanks for letting me know. Sometimes companies change things. The phone number is still listed on their site, but like you, I just tried it and it won't connect to anything. Also, the chat icon is still there for me (it's a little blue icon in the lower righthand corner right now). If I were you, then I would email them. Good luck getting your items replaced under the warranty - I'd love for you to share how it goes for you afterwards in the comments.
Amanda, note your link for online warrantee replacement form is now 404 (page not found)
Interesting to read others comments... I called the phone number this afternoon and believe I reached someone in India form thick accent... after telling me they had to 'check' the system for how to proceed they came back with as has been mentioned 'we are working on the system please call back next month'... that sounds like a dead end.
Doing 'consultant' search I do see 3 within range here in central FL... guess I'll 'try' that route.
fwiw I've got 2 lids that have fallen apart... 859-2 and 1610-6
Hi Jeff - thanks for the heads up. I've removed that section and added in their new contact form and email address they'd like you to contact for warranty issues. I'm sorry the process is frustrating for you so far...hopefully you'll get an answer soon!
I had measuring cups and spoons that started peeling as well as a tea pitcher that had torn due to shrinkage and peeled as well. They offered $14 store credit which did not buy anything. I was waiting to replace the pitcher but did not like the new styles. 3 years later, they have deleted my account and store credit. As mentioned in other comments, there are no representatives near me.
I tried to get a replacement and tupperware representatives (chat and voice) gave me the same response for the last 5 months, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but we are updating our warranty process, try again next month." I think this particular tupperware is 25 years old. Supposed to have a lifetime warranty. Ha. Tupperware is defunct.
There are no representatives near me - South Florida. I tried 10 different zip codes. My mother was a tupperware dealer for a long time more than 30 years ago and I have a ton of tupperware which is mostly fine, but one sandwich container lid just cracked into four pieces when I was last opening it - I used it irregularly. Should be covered under the lifetime warranty, but tupperware isn't doing it anymore.
I'm sorry for your experience, Candi. Thank you for letting us all know! I'll keep a look out for when their new policy becomes available.
@Candi, I have several pieces of Tupperware that I had when I quit selling and I also have several used pieces I would like to sell. It is not free but close, you will at least be able to use your piece if you still have it. If you are interested let me know and we can go from there. Maybe help each other out.
Since you wrote this site, their policy changed. They no longer replace anything. If you call them or chat with them, the will tell you that their warranty system is changing and "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, check back next month." I have been hearing this response since April 2021. Tupperware is defunct.
@Candi, yep same here, for 2 years now
This was handy, I have 3 wardrobe boxes stuffed with tupperware fom gamma, mom and self. A lot of the older goldenrod/maize &orange pieces from mom, gram liked avocado. Lids self destructed recently on 5 pieces(no heat damage, they ae the cannister sets), ton of the useful but homely pastel pieces. Will prolly end up ebaying it all since I went from house full to just me and adult youngest.
@Ginger, my modular mates canister set lids all fell apart between August 2019 and Dec 2021. Everytime I opened one ot just cracked. Weird how it was all of them so close together. Going to attempt replacement
I sent a warranty request over 12 months ago.
I could only ask for 4 warranty replacements for the price of postage and handling. I had 8 items to be replaced under warranty.
I have received 6 of the items, still waiting for 2 items, over 12 months later.
Yikes - that's a long wait time, Helen! Thank you for coming and updating us all on your experience with the Tupperware warranty. I hope you get the rest of your replacement order soon.
I have been attempting to replace a lid on the expensive 75.00 chopper since November 2020 through one of your Ladies. Nothing..very poor service
.I will never recommend Tupperware to anyone. Kmart items just as good and quarter of the price.
Disgraceful service.
I'm sorry you're having such trouble, Maureen. They're not my "ladies" - I do not sell Tupperware and have no affiliation with them. I just decided to test out their warranty and write an article about it, 20 years later!
I have always found that Tupperware honours its warranty. I recently found 3 pieces that I had put aside. Each had some type of crack. I searched for a consultant near me. I messaged her and she messaged my back. She asked me for the serial numbers for each
container. I was asked to keep the broken parts for a month, just in case they were requested. In no time at all, I received new Tupperware. For 2 of 3 items, the item is not longer made. Each was replaced with something of similar or greater value. I also bought a couple of pieces to add to my collection. I was very happy with the outcome. I will continue to be a Tupperware girl!
Score, Joanne! Thanks for sharing your positive Tupperware Warranty experience.
