A bunch of fun and spooky at-home Halloween date night ideas for couples to fully enjoy this time of year.
I’ve always loved Halloween.

And I've brought my love of this time of year into our marriage, which is why I'm so excited to share these at-home Halloween date night ideas.
At-Home Halloween Date Ideas
What can adults do for an at-home Halloween date night? Turns out, quite a lot.
Several of these Halloween date night activities my husband and I have already done, and several are on our October Couple's bucket list this year!
1. Do a Creepy, Virtual Haunted House Tour
Looking for a Halloween date idea to do on actual Halloween night?
There are lots of virtual haunted house tours available now, including:
2. Share a Halloween Episode or Movie that Scared You from Childhood
We did a new spooky activity last year, and it's become a new Halloween tradition for us adults.
It was to share an episode or movie that scared the pants off of us as kids. You know – that spooky scene in a movie or a show that you've remembered all these years?
For me, it was The Facts of Life Season 8: Episode 12. Those dice sliding down the stairs? Ayayayay – that scene has been replaying in my mind for years!
My husband's was Disney's Mr. Boogedy. I'd never seen it before, and it was fun having him share the scenes that scared him as a child (but are laughable today).
What a fun afternoon together, and such a cool, spooky thing to do on Halloween.
Bonus points: snack on Halloween candy. Just sayin’.
3. Share a Local Ghost Folklore Book Over Candles

Many places have ghost enthusiasts, and some of them have created books detailing local ghost folklore.
Buy a book for your state, your city, or even your local town, and read the stories aloud to each other over a fire.
Are there places you can go to together?
Make a plan to visit one.
Hint: need something less spooky? Here are 17 fun and flirty fall dates for couples.
4. Complete a Free Murder Mystery Together

Looking for a really engaging, adult time together?
Munch on a bowl of homemade Halloween Chex Mix while doing one of these free murder mysteries:
Psst: here are more fall games for adults.
5. Watch a B-Rated Horror Movie + Snack on a Halloween Charcuterie Board

Guess what store has some seriously awful (hilariously so) B-rated horror movies?
Dollar Tree.
Not only that, but this Halloween charcuterie snack board was made from ingredients entirely from there, too.
Pair the two together for some silly, spooky fun.
6. Make a Leftover Halloween Candy Dessert Together

There are tons of ideas now about what to do with leftover Halloween candy.
Send your kids out, then raid some of the candies to use with one of these:
- Leftover Halloween Candy Brownie Trifle
- Concession Stand Crackers
- Leftover Halloween Candy Blondie Bars
- Leftover Halloween Candy Cookie Dough
- Candy Bar Apple Salad
Psst: at the very least, you could check out the movie 1408. It’s pretty good!
7. Do a Black-and-White Horror Movie-a-Thon
Horror movies aren’t a new invention – there have been tons of them over the years.

Host a horror movie night for you guys…but with only black and white horror movies.
Some to check out:
- Night of the Living Dead (here’s a collection of over 50 old horror movies for the same price)
- Creature from the Black Lagoon
- The Wolf Man
- Dracula Legacy Collection
Hint: are you hosting a Halloween party? We did one year, and had a black and white horror movie playing in the background on mute. Really added to the ambience. And if you're doing a party…well then check out my article on is it cheaper to make your own meat and cheese tray.
8. Get Dressed in Costumes for Dinner

You two need to eat dinner, even on Halloween night, right? Might as well make it a bit more fun and unusual by having the adults eat in costumes!
You can use one of these free Halloween e-vites to announce the Halloween dinner date in a really fun way.
Increase the excitement by keeping your costumes a secret from each other until you show up at the dinner table. Here are 8 Dollar Tree Halloween costumes for men, by the way.
Psst: Want more? Be sure to check out these 13 October activities for adults.
9. Watch a Marathon Ghost Hunting Show

Looking for fun Halloween activities for adults? Over the last few years, several networks have started doing marathon live Halloween events centered around capturing ghosts on camera.
Sort of like watching one of those watering hole live cams – you can check in throughout the evening and see what’s going on.
Pretty fun to be part of! Just search online for “ghost hunting show Halloween year“.
Hint: you can use these cute, free printables to set up a Halloween concession stand to go with it.
10. Reveal Personal Ghost-Encounter Stories Around a Fire
Many people have unexplainable events that have happened to them throughout their lives, and now’s a great time to open up about them.
Light up the fire pit, offer some refreshments, and take turns sharing your stories with each other.
Hint: had no encounters? That's awesome – just share the silly things that used to totally freak you out as a child.
11. Compete with the Neighbors
Seek out another couple from your neighborhood to compete against for the best front-lawn Halloween decorations.
Kind of like an at-home Halloween group date!
You can ask other neighbors to do the judging, or even have each Trick-or-Treater cast their vote (hint: if you’re going that route, you might get a slight edge by handing out really good candy!).
12. Dress Your Pets in Creepy Halloween Costumes
There are some truly creepy (and cool) pet costumes out there now for Halloween.
Like this one, which makes your small dog look like a gigantic, running spider.
Or this one, which turns your cat into a bat cat for the evening.
13. War of Worlds Historical Radio Broadcast + Historical Dessert

Have you ever heard of the time when someone faked an alien invasion in New Jersey (when radio broadcasts were widely used), and much of America believed it?
It's such a fun date night to do with your spouse or partner.
I was shocked by how much fun we had in this at-home date night. So was my husband!
Other than me telling him we’d be having an at-home date night, he had no idea what it was about.
After we put our little guy to bed, Paul (my husband) and I had broccoli and garlic cheese stuffed baked potatoes at the dining room table (yes, the actual dining room table) by ourselves.
Then I had him wait for me downstairs in the den.
I came in with two servings of this 1930s Vanilla Strawberry Icebox cake. And I announced, “Welcome to 1938.”
On my phone, I had the infamous War of the Worlds radio broadcast from 1938 ready to play. He knew it instantly and was so excited we’d finally be hearing it!
Seriously – it sounded SO REAL. We imagined ourselves being a rural couple in the 1930s, with only our radio broadcast at night for news…and could completely understand why some people panicked.
We recommend this at-home date night, 10/10! Perfect for an at-home Halloween date night (spooky, but not too spooky).
14. Serve Halloween-Inspired Adult Beverages

Try out some new drink recipes, such as the:
15. Share a Halloween-Lit Book
You’ve seen those ridiculous remakes of classics with zombies and vampires, and such, right?
Now’s the time to pick one up!
Could be really entertaining. Could be totally silly and not worth it…but there’s no better time of year to give it a test drive.
Books like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, or Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Read one out loud, and let the giggling commence.
Psst: Just typing those names out makes me giggle.
Psst: prefer audio books? Here are horror audio books you can get for free.
16. Play a Halloween Prank on Each Other
How about you play one of these Halloween pranks on an adult in your life?
17. Boo Your Neighbor Together

Nothing screams at-home date night than doing something completely silly together.
It'll bring the two of you closer!
Grab some free printables, and a bunch of Halloween treats, and leave them on your neighbor's lawn/front porch.
They've been booed!
As someone who loves Halloween about as much as a kid, I'd LOVE for you to share your own at-home Halloween date nights in the comments below. What are you most excited about trying, and what are your couples' Halloween traditions?
