How to Make Homemade Trail Mix Krispies Blocks (Easy & Yummy Snack)

Here’s a filling and delicious snack my family and I can’t stop eating. Get the easy homemade snack recipe for kids and adults.

About two years ago, I created a new snack that my family and I have fallen in love with: The Trail Mix Krispies Block.

It’s sweet and savory and filling and even semi-healthy – thanks to the nut butter and nuts – all in a perfect balance with each other.

Honestly, they’re SO delicious that it’s the kind of snack I base my afternoon eating around (did I just admit that out loud?).

And I just can’t keep them a secret anymore.

How to Make Homemade Trail Mix Krispies Blocks

packages of Rice Krispies, Marshmallows, chopped pecans, walnut nut butter, and butter

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Crispy Rice Cereal
  • 1 10-oz. bag of Mini Marshmallows
  • 3 tbsps. Salted Butter
  • 1 jar of Nut Butter of choice (walnut butter, almond butter, pecan butter, peanut butter, cookie butter, etc.)
  • Nuts of choice (walnuts, pecans, peanuts, trail mix, pumpkin seeds, trail mix, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Make a batch of Rice Krispies Treats using the original recipe. You’ll need the Crispy Rice Cereal, salted butter, and mini marshmallows.

2. Dump them into a half sheet pan (you can use a regular 9 X 13 pan, too, just know that they will be quite thick), and make them as smooth and compact as you can (I spray a spatula and/or metal spoon with cooking oil to do this).

3. Spread crunchy peanut butter, or any nut butter, over the whole pan. I realize the photos I’m sharing show it only on half the pan…but trust me on this one. I find that if I only spread the nut butter on half, then the top half slides off when I eat them. The nut butter acts like glue!

4. Top half of it with as much trail mix or your favorite nuts as you’d like (for me, that’s Maple Walnuts – hands down my favorite healthy Dollar Tree snack).

5. Cut the entire pan of blocks in half, then firmly press one half on top of the other half.

6. Cut them into blocks (or, you might use a cookie cutter to create fun, seasonal shapes, for something like Christmas treats to gift or a Thanksgiving treat).

These make excellent pool party snacks, Christmas treats to gift, Thanksgiving treats, lunch box snacks, sleepover snacks…I mean, I’ll use any excuse to create a batch and gobble them down.

The Really, Really Quick Version

How to Gift Trail Mix Krispies Blocks

Now that you know about these, you won’t want to keep them to yourself, either.

I’ve found a few fun ways to gift them, and you can find out about that in my Christmas Treats to Gift and Thanksgiving No-Bake Desserts articles.
