51 Alphabet Date Ideas A-Z (At Home Couple’s Fun)

Need to keep your at-home date nights exciting and fun? Over the next 26 weeks, choose from these Alphabet date ideas A-Z.

Dating your spouse mostly at home these days? So are my husband and I!

couple laughing and dancing, text overlay "alphabet date ideas A-Z at home"

I think this Alphabet Date Ideas trend – to date your way through the alphabet – is such a fun way to keep things interesting.

Like Q&A Blindfolded for Q, and Japanese Snacks Tasting Night for J.

I’ve got loads of at-home ABC Date ideas from A-Z to get you through.

Alphabet Date Ideas A-Z (At Home)

Work your way through this list of at-home alphabet date ideas, and you’ll have date night planned for at least the next six months (26 weeks)!

Write down each letter of the alphabet on a sheet of paper. As you finish your date nights, fill in the letters. You can use this sheet as both a tracker AND to keep for memories (like folded and stuck in a photobook page).

Start with A, end with Z. OR, pick up an alphabet dice set, and take turns rolling that to determine which letter you’ll fulfill this week.

A: Arcade Games Competition

You should’ve seen the smile on my husband’s face when he saw that our at-home date night was going to be playing retro arcade games from our childhood!

This was possible due to these fun new nostalgic game products they have, such as this one, and this one – they’re loaded with games from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

And there were snacks, of course! I gathered a bunch of snacks from our childhood (mostly, that we weren’t allowed to eat – for good reason!) from the Dollar Tree.

Other ideas: Afternoon Tea + Snacks Picnic on the Bedroom Floor, Alien Evidence + Debate Night, Adult Easter Egg Hunt in the Backyard, etc.

B: Bake Chocolate Chip Mini-Skillet Cookies

mini square cast iron pan with homemade cookie on inside

There’s something so cozy and inviting about sharing baked chocolate chip cookies in mini skillets. You can do one skillet and share, or each get your own skillet.

YUM.

Here’s a great recipe for a mini skillet chocolate chip cookie, and here is a mini skillet.

Other ideas: Black Light + Fluorescent Dinnerware + Dinner

C: Crated with Love Date Night Box

Crated with Love creates these really fun date night boxes – they’re a relief, because it’s everything you need to have a date at home.

I keep a few in my closet, and decided to break out their Summer of Love box.

We've done others, as well:

Crated with Love Summer of Love box with contents on dark coffee table, including cards that say "what's your sign?"
Stranded in Love Crated with Love date night box on their coffee table

Other ideas: Carnival Games at the Dining Room Table, (chore) truth or dare, Crime Podcast, Childhood book read-aloud, Cheese-Tasting Board

D: Dollar Tree Snack Charcuterie Board + B-Rated Movie Night

Have you ever looked in the movie section at Dollar Tree? You know…the movies that cost just $1.25?

Of course you probably haven’t. Who would?

But here’s a fun thing to do with them: there are some seriously B-rated movies there. Which can be FUN AS HECK to watch with your partner.

Choose the silliest-looking-but-trying-to-be-real one you can, and then head on over to their snack food aisle to find tons of snacks 80s and 90s kids will appreciate.

This was SUCH a fun night for us. Ridiculous movie we laughed at, and snacks from our childhood we had long forgotten about. Score!

E: Epic Amazon Comment Sections

Hear me out on this one – it sounds silly and to like anything special, but the gut-holding laughter you both will experience together is unmatched.

There are these epic comment sections on certain Amazon products where people have written their hearts and wits out for the benefit of us all.

One night, I decided to read through a bunch of them with my husband Paul, while eating dinner together (TV OFF) for our mini date.

It was fantastic!

We laughed so hard, we could barely eat, and we had something hilarious to talk about and reference for days.

I’ll let you in on three:

Just look at this one:

F: Future Relationship Predictions (Magic-Ball Date)

I used to have fun with the Magic-8 Ball I owned when I was a tween, which is the inspiration behind this at-home date night with my husband.

How often do we think about the future as a couple? Or if we do think about it often, then when do we ever really talk about it together?

For us, we worry about stuff in the future and will talk about that, but we’re not really proactively talking about fun stuff in the future.

I decided to make a fun activity that would prompt us to talk about our future together.

Using a Magic-8 Ball, we went through these interesting questions:

  • Do you think we will still have date nights when we’re 80?
  • Will we survive if we live in an RV together?
  • Are we ever going to move?
  • Will we ever win the lottery together?
  • Will we ever live near someone famous?
  • Will one of us make a big career change in the future?
  • Should we do a new project together?
  • Is this the right time to expand our family?
  • Should we move closer to relatives?
  • Will we ever move to Texas?

It got us talking about other future things. Altogether, a fun (and interesting) evening.

G: Grill Meat Outside Together Out Back

husband smiling, smoking meat on back patio with wife

Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that bring a couple together.

Like when my husband gets excited about grilling meat outside…and I actually join him.

Next time you need an at-home date night, get one partner to cook outside, then sit out there with them and let the conversation roll (you can make side dishes ahead of time, if you’d like!).

Other ideas: Gallery Wall Creation (using a vinyl shower curtain with dry erase markers), Grocery Store Desserts

H: Historic Recipe Night + Radio Broadcast

two servings of icebox cake

Inspired by this guy’s YouTube channel filled with videos of him making recipes from really old recipe books, I decided to surprise my husband by making a 1930s-era Icebox cake.

It was the perfect historical dessert for us to gobble down while listening to the infamous 1930s radio broadcast: War of Worlds.

What an epic, at-home date night! Honestly, this one is in our top 10 over the years.

Other ideas: High School Yearbook Reveal

I: Ice-Creams on the Back Porch (After Kids are in Bed)

couple holding up M&M ice cream sandwiches in dark on back patio

Sometimes, it’s about creating a moment – it doesn’t always have to be an entire date night.

If you have a back patio, and it’s warm outside, then I encourage you to do this, just like my husband and I did. He put our little guy to bed and met me out back for two ice-creams (hint: I got them from the Dollar Tree’s frozen section for $1.25 each).

It may not sound like much, but it was a reason to be outside together, out of our normal routine, and to focus on each other. Worth. It.

J: Japanese Origami-Type Project

I found this really intricate Peacock origami project at 30% off, and decided it would make a fun project for the two of us to work on while watching a show and catching up on each other’s day.

Other ideas: Japanese Snacks Tasting Night, Jam Making (pick fruit and make jam, or pick it out from the grocery store), Jammies-All-Day

K: Korean Fried Chicken Takeout + Korean Romance Drama

We live in a part of the country with a vibrant Korean community. And their food? Is pretty awesome.

I decided (after our successful other Korean Food + Crash Landing On You date night) to grab two boxes of Korean chicken and pick a new Korean Romance Drama from Netflix.

L: Love is Art Date Night

Love is Art black tub with canvas with red paint on it on bed

This one is quite…interesting. And a bit thrilling.

In fact, I’m just going to leave this here for you to explore and see if you guys would want to do something like this in the bedroom (and yes, my husband and I did it!).

M: Magnetic Poetry Night

Who still has a magnetic poetry kit?

WE DO!

And yet…we haven’t even looked at it in about 15 years.

I fished it out of storage and made a pretty fun, at-home date night out of it, where we just ate dinner and made silly poems or silly sentences together.

N: Night Swim or Night Hot Tub Time

We don’t have a pool or hot tub at home, but you might!

When our son was still able to sleep in a play pen when we travelled, we got a hotel along the San Antonio River Walk together with my Mom.

That night, she watched our little guy while we got an uninterrupted hour up on the rooftop hot tub. It was MAGICAL.

See if you can make some swim/hot tub/water time (heck, a shower or bath tub works) at home one night.

O: One Minute to Win It Game Night

relationship scattergories with two dry erase dice with letters on it, and a big pad of paper
Prize area with chalkboard reading Mini Games Date Night

Wow. We just had SO much fun on this fast and memorable date night.

I set up a round of date night games where we were competing against one another – in fun ways. The prize? Were our treasured Pecan Twirls that we probably only stuff down our gullets eat like once a year.

Check out how to set up your own Minute to Win it Date Night Games here.

P: Play-Doh Pictionary

bright cards with duck and butterfly on them, and two play-doh creations to try and recreate
bright cards with banana and boot on them, and two play-doh creations to try and recreate

You wouldn’t think Play-Doh Pictionary would be so fun between two adults…but that’s where you’re wrong.

Because of the word “Play”.

Getting to do something goofy and from childhood, and tactile together is so calming and bonding.

In fact, we loved this one so much that we kept making our own shapes from the Play-Doh for an hour afterwards and having the other person guess while talking and watching reruns.

At-home date night bliss.

Q: Q&A Blindfolded (Or Through a Closed Door)

two blindfolds, and two decks of conversation starter cards for couples

I’m all about continuing to experience one another in new ways. And when you shut down one of your senses, things change!

Inspired by the Love is Blind show, I decided to get a bunch of conversation starters together and have us talk to each other and ask each other without seeing one another. Either behind a closed door, with a chair on each side, or with blindfolds on and lying on separate couches.

It’s a different experience, I can assure you. Even after years of knowing each other, there’s more!

Hint: You can also use blindfolds if you don’t want to use a closed door.

R: Retro Arcade Competition

foil pan filled with fun junky snacks plus two handheld retro arcade game consoles on table

Need an “R” date night?

Grab these fun new nostalgic game products they have, such as this one, and this one – they’re loaded with games from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

And have a mini competition with your spouse or partner around a game you used to obsess over as a kid (OR, you always wanted to play as a kid, but you weren’t allowed to).

S: Silent Date Night (no talking for 1 hour)

Ooohhhhhh this one is interesting. I based it on the Silent Retreat weekend I’m going to be going on in the next few months.

How do you communicate with one another when you have to be silent for 1 hour?

I don’t know…try it out and let us know.

Other Ideas: Silent Movie Night, Sour Candy Challenge (who can keep a straight face through it), etc.

T: Taste the Rainbow Date Night

print out of Taste the Rainbow date night

Picture this: my husband and I had a preschooler, we had just moved 12 hours away, and there were still boxes everywhere, and we hadn’t tried to date each other in what seemed like forever.

It was the end of a long day, and we were both exhausted.

Still, I wanted to connect with my husband in some way. Even just by creating a moment.

That’s why I was SO excited when I remembered this silly at-home date night I had already prepped and put into our bedside table: Taste the Rainbow.

You just get a pack of candies that have rainbow colors/flavors, download and print out the free printables, get blindfolds (ours were leftover from a flight abroad), and see who can actually guess the flavors they’re being fed by their partner.

Hint: it turns out my husband is horrible at figuring out flavors when blindfolded…which made this pretty hilarious.

It’s fantastic! And so low-key, that you can do it in your pajamas in bed (like we did).

Other ideas: Truth or Dare, Tiki-Torch Backyard Dinner, etc.

U: Ultimate Intimacy Game App in Bed

Each of you download one of the free intimacy apps (like Ultimate Intimacy), open up the Intimate Games section…and see where the night takes the two of you.

V: Virtual Chocolate Tasting Class

all of the chocolate bars and tasting kit out on the table

I found this virtual chocolate tasting class, where you buy a kit and then watch a video online together to go through the history of the company and its chocolates, and to taste each type.

It was really worth it! And you can totally do it at home.

In fact, my husband was traveling for five whole weeks for work, and I knew we needed to find ways to connect while he was gone (other than that we flew to go see him for two of those weeks, thank goodness).

SO, I split each of the chocolate pieces into two baggies with labels, and put it in a big envelope that read “Don’t Open Until I Say”.

About three weeks into his trip, I told him we’d be having date night that night. Over FaceTime, I shared my screen so that he could see the virtual chocolate taste-testing class. Then I instructed him to open the envelope.

What a fun way to connect while thousands of miles apart!

W: Wedding Album Look-Through

author and her husband looking through their wedding album with a lit candle

Light a candle, and spend some time thoughtfully looking through your wedding album together.

My husband and I did this at home in our living room leading up to our 15th wedding anniversary.

We hadn’t looked at this album in years.

It was such a sweet remembrance, and we each told the other little stories and feelings from that day that otherwise, each of us wouldn’t have known about.

X: Xerox Date Night

Take one of your previous date nights – the earlier in your relationship, the better – and Xerox it (copy it) the best you can to recreate that magic at home.

If you ate at a certain restaurant, then recreate part of the menu (you can look up Copycat recipes for the dishes you ate).

If you went to the movies, then find the movie you saw and set up a fun snack area to watch it together again.

Get creative here! It’s truly the thought that counts.

Other idea: Xbox game date night

Y: You Choose My Outfit Night

This one is pretty fun. You guys could go silly, you could go ultra-hot…

Definitely pick this one if you’ve ever wondered what your partner would like to see you wearing.

Z: Ziploc Bag Ice-Cream Making Night

I haven’t attempted to make homemade ice cream out of two Ziploc (or other gallon freezer bags, like these reusable ones) for decades.

Boy, does it strengthen the arms!

It was a fun little thing to do with my husband. And of course, afterwards, there’s a sweet reward.

Here’s the recipe we used.

Other ideas: Zen Adult Coloring Night

Putting together this article was SO special for me, because I got to take a sentimental trip down memory lane to all of these wonderful moments and experiences we created with these alphabet date ideas right in our own home. I want the same for you!
