It’s Frugal Confessions Friday–Pet Edition!
Posted on | December 4, 2009 | 4 Comments
Hello Everyone! If you are new to this series, check out the introduction here.
Here’s my confession of the week:
We have a cat, Lyla (and we love her!). In order to keep her happy, I buy the little cans of gourmet tuna…but I only give her a little spoonful each day at dinner with her normal dry food. And she gets soooo excited; whenever I come home, she runs up to me and gives me that look, and as soon as I mention the word “tuna”, she starts whining and running around! By giving her a little at a time, our small can of gourmet cat food lasts 3-4 days (or whenever it goes bad in the fridge).
Also, and this tidbit is from my Aunt Anita, we made her a toy from cutting out the inseam of an old pair of jeans. This toy is extremely durable, and she loves it!
I’d love to hear ways you save money on pets. Have a great weekend!

Sorry FruGAL, but it can’t be done! The four cats in this house rule the roost. Every time I go shopping, they hop on the kitchen table and go through the bags. When they don’t find anything, I get the hairy eyeball, “What did you buy for us?!”
When their bowls are empty, they send the cute little cats up to wake us up to refill them. We stay up late waiting for them to come home from catting around the neighborhood.
Sorry…but we live to serve the cats and unfortunately, they know it. (Just don’t tell them I buy the large economy sized bag of food with a coupon and use BOGO coupons to buy their treats).

Momma J: Hahahahaha! Cats are so funny. They certainly do have an air about them. I get Lyla the Gourmet feast cans (you know the commercials with the air-brushed, white, long-haired cat); if I try to switch to the cans that are $0.20 cheaper, she gives me SUCH an evil eye!!!
Thanks for sharing!

Thankfully my dogs are easier…any food is good food. Plus, everybody seems to give us whatever treats their picky dogs didn’t like…
Now the trick is to get some kind of stuffed toy that the Dachshund won’t shred in a few weeks…my Pug loves stuffed animals and toys, but the Dachshund destroys them.

I save tons of money on pets by not having any and just playing with other people’s pets when I’m of the mind
