It’s Frugal Confessions Friday!!

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!
Today is another installation of the Frugal Confessions Series I am trying to launch. Read all about it here.
Here goes:
When I was in college, I read on a financial blog somewhere that you can use a black sharpie marker to color in areas on black shoes to make them last longer (like if the shoe leather was cracked and glaring white was showing from underneath). Well, I had this beautiful black cardigan sweater (from about the age of 16–you do the math as to how old it was at that point:)), and accidentally bleached it one day while doing laundry, leaving about a quarter-sized blotch of white on the shirt.
So…I took a sharpie marker and colored in the bleach spot! It turned out to be a slightly brownish-looking black compared with the black color of the sweater, but it lasted another year or two!
Now it’s your turn! Share with me and our other readers your stories of frugalness.
And most of all, have a great Friday!

Haha, thats fantastic! here’s mine:
Although we try our best not to let food go bad, occasionally we are guilty of letting vegetables sit for a little too long in the fridge. Occasionally though, when we realize we have a number of veggies that are on the brink of going bad, we’ll make what we call a “kitchen sink calzone” by chopping up all the *almost* questionable veggies we can find, throwing them into one side of rolled out pre-made pizza dough, topping with a little tomato sauce and cheese and tossing it in the oven. We’ve only done this a few times, and we were pleasantly surprised that it was actually quite tasty!

In the town I used to live in there was a discount shoe store that would always get in some of this and some of that from retail stores that needed room for new stock. Most of it was so ugly or just plain pimpish looking that it was completely understandable that the 1st store that had them couldn’t sell them. However, once in awhile you could find a great shoe for not much. Such was the case one day while I was browsing. I found not one but two pair of Bally shoes that I was just dying for. They were marked down from their original price of $250 to only $100. I just about peed my pants at the prospect of getting them at such a bargain. There was one problem though. Both pair were 1/2 size too small!! : (
I bought them anyway : – ) Either my feet became permanently squashed or the shoes eventually stretched out. Btw, I’ll still do that to this day. If I like the shoe enough, I’ll use a stick of dynamite to get my foot in if I have to.

Aurora–Hahaha–that is great! Way to use almost-bad veggies (and obviously they weren’t that bad because you guys didn’t get sick, so that is a plus:))
Thanks for sharing!

BluSky: Hello! Hehehehe–That is funny you squish your feet in. As long as they don’t come out looking like bound feet, well then I think you got yourself a great deal!

That’s such good advise to make things last longer. I used to use shoe whitener to give white shoes more life.

I’ve used White Out on my white sneakers to cover up blemishes…the sharpie on black shoes looks more like a shiny brown
Oh, and if your car gets a scratch, try finding a similar color nail polish for less than a buck (saves hundreds of dollars over dealership touch-ups).
