Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

Here is my frugal confession of the week:

Prices on meat, chicken, and fish have risen a good bit over the last few years (did you notice?). Because of this, we have cut down on the amount of meat that we eat throughout the week in our household. However, we are not vegetarian or vegan. Another way I have found to decrease the cost of meats is by shopping Manager’s Specials at our local grocery store. I typically save several dollars per meat product for each Manager’s Special deal we purchase. We make sure to freeze or use the meat right away, since the reason it is marked down is because it needed to be sold quickly.

Just this past week I scored three pounds of lean angus ground beef, two pounds of ground turkey, and four Italian sausages for a totals savings of close to $15. What a deal!

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

We’ve done this as well. Look at milk or other dairy as well. We go through milk pretty quick and have been able to score a gallon of milk that’s two days away from it’s date for less than a buck, on occasion. Since it always last a few days past the date (especially the lower fat you go), we have never not drank it all up.

Great find Money Beagle! I am not sure if your family is up to this, but if you purchase soy, almond, or rice milk instead, it will last a month or so (my husband likes dairy, but I purchase almond for myself).

I always look for the manager’s special on any product, but especially meat. You can save so much money that way. People are scared of it because they think it is already bad, but that is just not the case.

Hi Grayson! I guess that’s good for us that other people are scared away:).

I have noticed the rise in prices, but it seems to me we are probably eating more meat. Why or how? We decide to eat at home rather than eating out, and for less than half of a meal out we eat some nice steaks or fish.

You will definitely save money eating at home (even with fish and steaks as some entrees) than eating out.

I have a deep freezer so I buy the whole or half animal. I currently have a whole sheep and am going for half a cow soon. It saves a lot of money to buy in bulk.
