Frugal Confessions – Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions readers!

Here is my frugal confession of the week:

We’ve had two doors down in our home for the last year or so. One was my closet in my office, which we found a gaping hole in after closing on the house (literally that day, so we think it occurred when they moved out). The other was a broken door in Paul’s office. Also, our bedroom door would not swing open the entire way, and this was quite annoying (as well as painful when we would periodically jam a knee into it with no give).

Fortunately, Paul and his brother Matt just put in two new doors in our offices, and Paul fixed our bedroom door so that it properly swings open the entire way! It was great that instead of hiring someone we had Matt to help (thank you again!) and only needed to pay for the cost of materials. Not to mention the fact that we finally have working doors!! In return, we gave Matt several plants from our yard that are multiplying. Plus, we offered to help him with his upcoming landscaping project—should be fun!

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

My frugal confession of the week is that I have held off on changing some things around in the house until I earn enough points on my american express that I can get home depot gift cards, and then I will make the purchase =)

Nice! Anytime you can enlist or trade services, its way better than hiring out the service.

My story this week – I was originally going to order 6 tons of flagstone at $300 per ton. But at the last minute, I called another place and found the same stuff for $175 per ton. I immediately canceled my other order and went with the less expensive option. It looks great! I’ve got pictures up on my site!

My frugal confession of the week is that we may actually be able to refinance! We’ll eliminate PMI and drop our interest rate 1.25%. I’m super-excited!!

Dropping PMI and reducing interest rate would be awesome! We are set to close this week and I could not be happier.

My frugal confession of the week is rather than having someone seal my driveway at a cost of $400 I bought a driveway squeegee and 5 buckets of sealer for $140 and did it myself. I never did it before, yet it was quite simple.

I know I’m a bit late but my confession is that we saved $13 on a trip to Home Depot because we happened to run out of the discounted gift cards I often order online to pay for our remodeling purchases. I remembered seeing “online only” discount cards that are emailed within 24 hours of purchase, so I checked to see if I could order from homedepot.com and pick up in store. Turns out we could, so I ordered and e-gift card for 7% off, and then also went through ebates for another 3% back! In all we saved $13 and the order was ready to pick up within 30 mins of placing it online..score!

You’re never too late to the game;).

Way to go! Oddly enough, I still have not done your strategy to save on our Lowes/Home Depot trips. It definitely can add up!

I taught myself to Ames Tape from Youtube and framed out a new bedroom for my little son (splitting my humongous bedroom into two merely large ones)

Original quote £4000 – actual cost £270 and now we have moved into them we have two rooms on the lower floor that we have let to lodgers.

Bargain all round I think
