Frugal Confessions Friday: Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!
For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.
Here is my confession of the week:
This is actually rather funny. When I was 16 years old, my then step-mother bought me a brand new bathing suit she picked up at a Tj Maxx or other discount store. The swimsuit moved with me from Pennsylvania to Maryland, then from Maryland to Florida, and then from Florida to Texas…with the price tag still on. Just a few months ago when my other bathing suit had lost too much of its elasticity, I broke out this old bathing suit, tried it on, and found that it still fit my body! I ripped the price tags off, and went down to Galveston with it this past weekend. Hurrah! Beats buying a new one:).
What is your frugal confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

Ha! Staying fit and trim is the best frugal technique when it comes to clothes. Whenever my husband’s pants get tight, he just goes on a diet. It’s pathetic (or frugal), but he’s wearing some of the same pants I bought him right after we got married almost ten years ago.

I love that story. My frugal confession-I love shopping in my closet. Went there yesterday for a (5 year old) “still good” white t shirt paired it with 10 year old pink sandals, some newer slacks, and a beautiful 3 bracelet set ($10 & sterling) from K Mart. All never worn together before and LOOKING GOOD! Regards, Barb

My dad dropped a plastic bin of old clothes that had been in their basement since I was in college (I didn’t even know it was there) and I found a few great things in there, like my khaki overalls that I used to LOVE in high school. They may not be very stylish, but comfortable? Oh yes. I promptly gave everything a good washing to get rid of the “musty basement” smell and everything was fresh and wonderful again. I can’t wait to wear my overalls around the house, they are sooooooo comfy.

You grew up all too aware of the financial struggles/issues we faced raising you and 3 other children on farmers income. It makes me smile & makes me proud that you not only learned by our mistakes, but now can facilitate a better lifestyle by using it to write a wonderful column! I shopped the TJ Max’s,the Tuesday Morning’s(remember-my FAVORITE!) & other outlet/discount stores because it was the only way to buy quality items at a price we could afford. Even at 16 you were “frugal” enough that you could not bring yourself to throw away anything that you might be able to use “someday”.I can’t wait for you to tell your readers the “how we paid for college stories” Now THAT (at least for me) was the ultimate lesson in how being frugal and doing research REALLY paid off!

My confession this week is saving old prescription bottles, peeling off the labels, and using them as organizers for random screws, bolts, nails, etc. in my garage. My father always taught me never to throw away a perfectly good screw!
Ugh, what the heck am i going to do with a bunch of random screws?

I shop my mom-in-laws closet. I’m apparently a size behind her and we have similar tastes. Between my MIL, Goodwill, and Kohl’s, the only other place I shop is for business slacks at Dilliard’s (I love their “Investments” brand…$30 and they last 2-3 years easy).
