Frugal Confessions Friday – Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

Here is my frugal confession of the week:

I snagged a really cool mystery shopping assignment last weekend at a race track! This was supposed to be a great date night with my husband, but unfortunately he was called back to his office in an emergency. Even so, I had a great time by myself. All of my expenses were reimbursable—three bets, dinner, a drink, admission, and a program—plus I received $60 in payment. Needless to say, I hope I receive more mystery shopping assignments like this in the future.

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

That’s awesome on a lot of levels! Mystery shopping sounds like a cool way to go out and experience neat stuff and get a little extra income out of it. My confession this week: This is the first week in a few months that I actually planned out all my shopping and meals well enough to not have to spend any extra money on food/groceries. Plus it was all super healthy and my new favorite food is definitely edimame :) Too many confessions?

Haha–never too many confessions:). Good for you! Sometimes I don’t feel like picking out recipes and such before we go grcoery shopping, but I remind myself that by doing so I am saving headaches down the road for sure. It’s nice to know what to cook and have the ingredients on hand when you get home from work. Thanks for sharing!

I finally bought a home coffee maker so that I could save $5 a day on my morning coffee. I’m an espresso lover so it was a tough choice but at least I can still have what I like on the weekends. Bonus, it’s a pour over coffee maker that only cost $20 plus $5 for the filters – and it’s super easy to clean and use!

My Dell PC went down last night. I called for service (out of warranty) and was told it qould be $250 + parts. found a guy locally on Yelp who replaced the part for $100.

that’s one fun mystery shopping assignment!!

my confession: I received a coupon in the mail for a free Schick hydro silk razor (normally $13, ouch!) and I held onto it unto close to the expiration to see if there was some kind of deal I could combine it with. I ended up getting the free razor at CVS, and getting $5 in extrabuck rewards to spend later, woo! For someone that has very little time to seek out as many deals as I used to, I was pretty happy with this one :)

Hi Aurora!

Nice score by layering your deals. And yes, I love that “deal high”:).

I did my taxes on TaxAct instead of paying to use TurboTax. I don’t like it as much but I’d grown really weary of buying TT every year.

So did you win? And what kind of track did you go to? Did you make your own choices on the bets? I’m a gambling fiend when it come to horses. I can spend an entire weekend doing nothing but that. Which is why I have to really ration my time with it :(
