Frugal Confessions Friday – Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

Here is my frugal confession of the week:

When my Aunt Anita stayed with us earlier this year, she mentioned that it would be nice to have a chair, ottoman, or something in our guest room so that guests could get into their luggage without having to bend over on the floor or plop their luggage onto the bed each time they need to get into it. I’ve kept this suggestion in the back of my head, hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime deal on a gorgeous reading chair, chaise, hopechest/etc. Two weeks ago, I found my deal.

While making a donation to the Goodwill, I found this gorgeous reading chair for $21.64. Our guest room colors are tans/blues, so it matches beautifully!

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

  • Great find and price! My husband is a huge Disney fan and living close we have annual passes for the family. Eatting at Disney is another thing. Very expensive for a simple family outting. Used to pack in food, now though I have a Disney Reward Visa that I treat like a debit card. Make my purchases on things I need or have planned for. Like new truck tires we just bought. Put the purchase on this card then absolutely pay off at the end of the month, no carried balances or interest! Benefit, the reward points are on a card that can be used at any Disney restaurant, food stand or store. So we have a fun day out, get to eat decent food and it’s already paid for by purchases I needed to make anyway. Just did this yesterday and didn’t have to put the two meals or $76.00 out of pocket. Helps me enjoy the “Happiest Place on Earth” a whole lot more : )

  • Ha! Okay, Amanda, I have a very similar confession. A couple of years ago, I needed to have some surgery that was going to keep me quite inactive for a month or so, and even sitting in a “normal” chair was uncomfortable. I didn’t want to spend all my time lying down, so I went to Craigslist and found a $25 thirdhand easy chair, the kind that can lean way back. I’d never dreamed I’d ever own one. Since it was just for a month or two, I didn’t care that it was well worn and didn’t match anything else in the room. Guess what – 2 years later, it’s my favorite chair! I only sit in maybe a half hour a day, but holy cow, I look FORWARD to that half hour! Good thing I gave up trying to impress other people with stylish “stuff” long ago, because I’m pretty sure this doesn’t impress anybody – but me!

  • Thanks Lynda!

It looks like you have found a way for your family to still get what they want, but without paying full price. Frugal Decadence at its best! Thank you for sharing.

  • Hi Chris,

Nice find! I have already gone to the guest room several times since purchasing the chair just to sit in it:).
