Frugal Confessions Friday – Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

Here is my frugal confession of the week:

Paul and I recently made a purchase for our home. One week later, we found the exact same item for $21 cheaper in a print advertisement. Instead of missing out on this deal, I was able to call our credit card company up and invoke Price Protection. I filled out a claim, submitted the sales ad with our receipt, and am happily awaiting our $21 refund as I write this. Hurrah!

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

We have been very diligent about buying stuff for the baby (arrival to be in late November) in the order that we will need it (no need to buy the high chair now, when he wont use it for a while). By doing that we are able to spread out the costs of a new baby. We have also not bought anything without a coupon (luckily Babies R Us emails out alot of coupons). We also bought the nursery furniture and rocking chairs on sale too! So far we have saved ~20% off of our total “baby bill”.

Good for you! By slowly purchasing the items you will give yourself longer to come up with the money to pay for them.

  • That’s awesome your credit card company was able to do that! My frugal confession this week is that I haven’t been entirely frugal. It’s been a busy week and I haven’t been paying as much attention to where money has been going. Ooops I need to get back on track asap ;)

      Hi Rebecca!

Do you have a credit card? If so, I would check and see if they offer the same thing (many do have a price protection program).

    great catch!

My confession: I really wanted to find a backpack carrier for my toddler because I find carrying her to be so much more convenient than using the stroller, but using our front carrier to too hard on my back now that she’s a healthy 24 pounds! I was looking for a second hand carrier, but they sell for a surprisingly high amount. Instead I decided to buy a new one with 2% back from ebates and that target currently has a deal to get a $20 gift card with purchase. Subtracting the amount of the gift card it was still a $100 purchase, but I decided it would be better to buy new and then sell it in good condition when I’m done, since they command such great resale prices.

  • That’s so amazing! Mine’s not nearly as exciting, but this week I found a Halloween costume for DC at a resale store…tags still on it and all fro $6!
