Frugal Confessions Friday – Frugal Living

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.

Here is my confession of the week:

I have been really curious about trying the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter (you’ve probably seen it on television or at the store). Of course, I didn’t want to pay the $19.99 price, and when it came down to $9.99, well, I didn’t want to pay that either.

Fortunately, I found it for 50% off at Bed, Bath and Beyond this week, and so I walked out with what I wanted at $4.99!

What is your frugal confession this week? I’d love to hear it!

    I have two:

I’ve been needing a backpack since the end of last semester when mine basically disintegrated. I’ve been waiting until all of the back-to-school sales kicked in, but didn’t need to buy one because my parents got one for free from donating so much blood! Glad I waited!

We also recently had a garage sale. On weekends, when I was home, I scrounged in the garage for things I needed and ended up finding a new stapler (mine broke), a bundt cake pan (was budgeting to buy one of those) and several other odds and ends. Since my family did the same thing with my stuff, we all just sort of traded and no one had to pay anything!

Hello AgLee16! Thank you for sharing. Is there a rewards program for donating blood? Here is a confession: I have never donated blood. For most of my life I was (thankfully) under the 110 pound threshold…but I am not any longer…so I guess I don’t have an excuse now:).

Amanda, yes, there is a rewards system for donating blood. I’ve gotten 3 fleece blankets so far and a few grocery cards. Check out http://www.giveblood.org I believe…you can donate every 8 weeks and there are even days that give bonus points (most Sundays).

My frugal confession is that my husband was sweet enough to buy me the Magic Bullet blender (that I’ve wanted for a while now) on sale at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $50 but he didn’t know about their 20% off coupons. I went back the next day and they adjusted my receipt for the 20% after the fact! I got back an additional $19 from the 20% refund on the blender, shower clock, and bowl set. Woot!

    Hey Crystal–

Woohoo! I’ve seen that on television as well. Let me know how it works for you.

Also, thanks for letting me know more information about the donating blood rewards!

    How interesting…

So far, I am LOVING the the Magic Bullet. I have made a ton of fruit smoothies and Pina Coladas for our gaming group. It’s easy to use and takes about 15 seconds to clean up. :-)
