Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!
For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.
Here is my confession of the week:
I have many baby showers coming up, and you probably do as well! Fortunately I have found some ways to find great, quality gifts at unbeatable prices. First of all, I ordered some items from Babies’R'Us Clearance, which right now has up to 50% off baby essentials (and the not-so-essential-but-utterly-adorables). Also, I recently joined bTrendie for a free $10 credit (send me an email and I will send you an invitation so that you can receive a free $10 credit as well!). Right now there are these adorable umbrellas that you can get for just $4.94 shipped (after your $10 credit).

My frugal confession is that I wear the same two pairs of slacks for work for the whole year.
I usually buy two $30 pairs of “Investments” from Dilliards (usually one grey and one black) during the tax-free weekend. I start wearing those as well as the two I had been wearing. When the old ones do finally look too worn-out (faded or in need of a little love), I donate them to Goodwill and continue with the two new pairs for the rest of the year. Rinse and repeat.
It works since I have a variety of blouses…plus my clothing budget is $200 or less most years – never more than $350 and that was when I splurged on a couple of pairs of half price Crocs and a few new outfits for a cruise we took last year.

hahaha–great job Crystal! I have found that you can definitely wear pants more than once per week, but I don’t think it works with shirts. I will typically wear a pair of jeans twice.
Thanks for sharing!

Yep, pants can be worn to work twice before being washed and I have 10 shirts I switch between and wash every two weeks.
I also have a almost 20 funny t-shirts I’ve bought from Shirt Woot in the last three years for the weekends and evenings, so I’m definitely set for tops. I also have 4 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of sweatpants, 3 sweaters, and three or four nice date dresses and outfits. That’s my whole wardrobe.

I already live in Montrose, I’m afraid people would definitely get the wrong idea about me if I carried an umbrella like that. Seriously.
As far as frugality goes for the week, I’m afraid I lost out. I thought I was being all smart going to get my gas at Costco like usual but it turns out I drove right by a gas station that had it for 3 cents less on my way

my frugal confession this week happened partly out of pure luck and partly out of patience to find want I wanted without paying full price… I had been wanting to get a skinny table or kitchen island work table of some sort for a long time to put against an open wall of our kitchen in order to move our microwave and other small appliances off our counter to free up some counter space, but since we are potentially going to put in more cabinets and counters on that wall down the road I didn’t want to spend much on this temporary solution, even though we wouldn’t be upgrading our kitchen for a couple years at least. There were times though, when I saw a nice looking solid wood table for $99 at Ikea that was perfect for the space that I was VERY tempted to go for it.. but still I waited, thinking maybe I would eventually come across one at a yardsale or on craigslist. WELL, this week Scott and I both took Wednesday off from work because it was a beautiful day and we had some things we wanted to get done around the house while the weather was nice and before this huge rainstorm came (that is now about to soak us all weekend). While we were home we also decided it would be a great day to try to get rid of some things taking up space in our garage (an old chandelier and toilets that we have replaced) so I posted them for free on craigslist. Someone nabbed the chandelier within an hour of it being posted (I will add we tried unsuccessfully to sell the thing for a little bit of money with no luck, so decided finally that we just wanted the darn thing out of our garage). As I went back on the free listing page of craigslist to take down our chandelier ad I saw the perfect kitchen table island posted for free! I was in disbelief and literally sprinted to find my phone because I knew it wouldn’t last long, and lucky for me I was the first caller (out of apparently like 22!). So it turned out giving away our chandelier landed us more room in our garage AND a kitchen work table that we really wanted!
P.S. those umbrellas on bTrendie today are ADORABLE, and sold out now!

hello Aurora!
Great job on getting what you were looking for…for free!!! I saw the photo and it looks lovely. Also…I was able to snag the pink umbrella, and it will be some lucky little girl’s birthday present next year:):).

My confession is that today restaurants.com sent me a code to get a $25 gift certificate for $2! I had ordered a certificate 2 weeks ago and they sent me an offer for a free $10 certificate. Now I have $60 worth of restaurant certificates that I got for $12. (Psst…the code is BITE…enter it at checkout)
Now for my frugal complaint – Does anyone else have trouble with the Rite Aid rebate program? It seems like every month there is an issue with an item labeled wrong on the shelf or I’ve actually entered receipts that it says have already been entered (I suspect the kid at the sales counter…hmmm). I think I’m switching to the CVS program. They just sent me a $3 off a $15 purchase coupon. That’ll get me started!
