Frugal Confessions Friday!!!

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!!!

I was supposed to be flying out in 15 minutes up to PA to take care of more wedding details…but my flight was cancelled, so I will *hopefully* be flying out tonight. d

Here’s my confession of the week:

This actually was pure dumb luck…but it definitely saved us money! I was ready to purchase our one-way tickets up to PA for our April wedding two weeks ago. Southwest Airlines was having  a sale, so it seemed like a good time. However, the price came to $279 for both of us, one way, including taxes. This seemed quite expensive to me.
Anyway, I held off on buying the tickets until yesterday when my new credit card cycle began. The total this time? $186!!! That includes taxes and everything–that was a $93 savings for something we were going to buy anyway!

What are your frugal confessions of the week? I’d love to hear them.

That’s awesome y’all were able to save that. Okay, what I did truly was miserly but it was more a result of boredom than anything else. I rented a movie at Redbox the other day which I’ve been doing quite a bit lately because they placed one about two blocks from where I live. Anyway, I took one back late and looked at the receipts for it since they’re so good about sending them and what I saw was that they were both for $1.08 which didn’t make sense to me. My thought has always been that goods and services are taxable but fees are not. I understood the rental charge being taxed because that is a service but taxing the late fee? I didn’t get that at all. Redbox was kind enough to school me in sheistiness: it all depends on what you call it. They don’t charge “late fees” they said. They charge “additional rental fees”. Hmmpphh. Whateverr.

I keep an off-brand Ramen noodles bowl (SunLee) in my desk at work for days I forget to pack a lunch. I add in hot water from the coffee machine and voila. :-)

crystal – I do the same thing! I like to keep cans of soup or packets of oatmeal in my desk for days when I forget (or am too lazy) to pack my lunch.

Aurora – I have oatmeal in my desk too since I stopped eating cereal at home every morning. :-)

I love Southwest! I was helping plan a bachlorette party… plans were not going well. Back several months ago when they were having their $25 sale we decided to take advantage of it and get tickets to NOLA for $70 round trip! Instant bachlorette party and girls weekend and we had blast!

I cancelled my cell phone in order to switch to a cheaper plan which only allows three phones – DH, my son, and my daughter got to keep theirs. In all, it will only save my $22/mo., but I can always use my son’s phone when I need one and we still have a home phone. I also decided if I should end up regretting the decision, I will go and buy an inexpensive tracfone w/no contract.

This is a confession because I haven’t told anyone yet…I’m too embarrassed that my kids get to have phones of their own and I am not ‘important’ enough to keep mine :)

The funny part was that my son begged and begged and BEGGED for a phone last Sept. for his 12th birthday. I finally relented, even tho’ I knew it was going to send the bill thru the roof; the other day he said to my DH, “I think it was a really great idea mom had to cancel her cell to save $$.” Hilarious!
