Frugal Confessions Friday

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!
For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.
Here is my confession of the week:
I made my credit card company pay me this week. That’s right–$35 in my pocket thanks to Citibank. The first $5 is through a price protection program that they offer. I purchased a Coleman Queen Double High air mattress a month ago, and this week I saw an advertisement for the same one, except that it is on sale for $5 cheaper. My credit card company will credit my account the difference once I submit the ad. The other $30 is for a free trial offer on a new program they have. I get $30 just for trying it out. I love it when the credit card company has to pay me!!!
What is your Frugal Confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

Nice! I have never tried the price protection program, and I’m pretty sure we have the same credit card! I can’t think of anything in particular that I noticed was less after we bought it though, so I guess that’s good news. Is there a certain number of days after the purchase that you are limited to before making a claim?

Hello Aurora!
It looks like you have 60 days from the date of purchase to find an ad that has a better price. Like I said before, wow if you do this around Christmas, right? Buy things right around Christmas, then wait for those post-Christmas sales, and you could make back some money:).
Thanks for the comment!

That is a great idea!! Hopefully I remember 5-6 months from now
My frugal confession for the week has to do with patiently waiting for a “chair and a half” – which we have wanted for a very long time – to come to us at a price we were willing to pay. We found one in excellent condition from a lovely clean home listed on craigslist, for $250! They were actually asking $300 for it, but that was more than we wanted to pay and they were willing to come down on the price when we asked (it had been listed for nearly a month before we contacted them). That’s the problem with getting such a good deal on our couch – it lowered the amount we were willing to pay for any other piece of furniture! But it all worked out and now we have a new comfy peice of furniture to replace the old hand-me-down recliner that I can’t wait to get rid of!

We finished building a new house this year, bought a large part of the appliances as well as living/dining room furnishings off craigs list for rock bottom prices. Have to be selective, and went all over west tennessee for the items, but saved a bundle if your willing to invest the time.

Hi Amanda, I guess my frugal confession is the pair of leggings I bought at Kohl’s this week for $1.80, reduced from $18.00. And if I may continue, Kohl’s has 50-90% mark downs almost all the time!! Best regards, Barb

Hmm, does 20% off my beer @ Central Market count?
It’s been on sale since the 30th and I took full advantage. I should have bought more before I left town though because the sale ends on the 6th before I get back.
