Frugal Confessions Friday!!

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!
For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.
Here is my confession of the week:
I love yoga, and having practiced it on and off again for 5 years now, have definitely seen the changes in my body and life. Yoga has a habit of strengthening some seemingly odd parts to your body, including your toes, and each practice of mine includes putting my fingers through all of my toes and separating them for a few minutes. This helps with balance, circulation, and separates them after being squished into shoes most days. Have you ever seen those toe separaters that sell in yoga stores for between $16-$32? Well, instead I use my $0.99 toe separators I purchased from a Sally Hansen store for painting toe nails. Works the same, has the same ending result, and is about $15-31 cheaper!
What is your frugal confession of the week? I’d love to hear it!

When i get free samples of laundry detergent that are supposed to be for 1 load, i actually get about 10 loads out of them. I use 1/10th the amount of detergent usually recommended, use vinegar in the rinse instead of fabric softener and your would not believe the difference that my clothes are looking and feeling these days… we don’t NEED all the det & added crap….try it for yourselves….

finallygettingtoeven: Hello! Great idea–I haven’t heard of that before. I have heard that certain laundry detergent companies play with the size of their caps so that a consumer uses more than the recommended or needed amount per load, making it certain that they need to purchase product more frequently. How sneaky!!
Thanks for your comment.

I’m glad someone has tried the detergent thing. As soon as I run out of store-bought detergent I’m planning on making my own. I’ll let y’all know how that works out.
My confession: If I want something in the store, I always ask myself “can you make this?” If I can and haven’t, I take it to mean that I just don’t need it. If I DO need it, I should be able to make it for a fraction of the cost. Two examples: granola and a rice bag. I eventually did make the rice bag for around $4 (they retail anywhere from $10-$20).

I know I am a couple of days past Friday, but here is my confession anyways. I went shopping for necklaces for my bridal party to wear and went into a shop in the Galleria and when they told me the necklaces were $45 a piece! I set it back down and said “That is out of my price range” Then they proceeded to barter with me to lower the price (yes they initiated bartering process). I was able to get the necklaces for $25/each! This wasn’t in a chain store in the mall so the bartering process was easier than in an anchor store. But then when I went to an anchor store to look for a special necklace for my mom for the day of the wedding and the guy behind the counter gave me an additional 15% off (a discount that was normally reserved for people using their credit card). That extra discount along with the Memorial Day Sale and it got a $200 necklace down to $78!!!

We get married in 18 days!!!!! I am so excited. Everything is ready to go and I am just tieing up some loose ends. Like you I am traveling back home for the wedding (home is in Ohio) so getting everything I need back to Ohio is the trickiest part.

My confession has to do with my dogs again. I used to buy them special treats but my Pug got switched to a vegetarian diet…no meat proteins at all. Now I can open one can of green beans or carrots (50-60 cents) and have enough treats for 7-9 days! Woot!

Budgeting In The Fun Stuff: Wow–does your dog like veggies? If only kids were so simple…(am thinking of a certain neice and nephew who do not eat enough vegetables:)). Thanks for the comment.
