Frugal Confessions Friday!

Hello Frugal Confessions Readers!

For those of you new to this series, check out the introduction here.

Here is my confession of the week:

This year, Paul and I didn’t have the chance (or extra money) to really celebrate Easter with one another. We still celebrated the religious aspect, and cooked ourselves a nice meal, but we didn’t get the chance to dye easter eggs and leave each other baskets.

Well, that is going to change for next year! While at the grocery store, I snagged Easter stuff at 90% off of its original price! I got two baskets for $1.00, two different egg dying kits for $0.50, and two Easter grasses for $0.20. What a deal! If I had purchased these in the frenzied days leading up to Easter, I would have paid almost $20.

What is your confession of the week? I’d love to hear it.

I would like to confess a frugal action my fiancé made the other day. I came back from running errands to find him emptying the leftover ketchup packets into the normal ketchup bottle.
As for my confession…. When I went for my dress alterations I really didn’t want to spend a lot. When I bought the dress (off the rack) back in September I was able to get a $1000 designer dress on sale for $399 because it was “last years model.” I had heard that dress alterations can be as expensive as the dress….and I didn’t want to pay more for the alterations than I did for the dress, so I was prepared to leave the store with an unaltered dress if that meant saving some money. As it turns out the dress I bought fit perfectly I only had to pay for them to sow in the bustle. So it paid off to buy a dress that already fit and that was on sale. Now I can honestly say that I got a GREAT deal on my wedding dress…..(we won’t talk about how much the veil was).

    Hello Michelle!!!

How was your wedding? Ours was lovely:). That is hilarious about the ketchup packets! When I was living in London during college, and had like NO money, I would snag extra ketchup packets from when I ate at the McDonald’s over there (I treated myself to a french fry and a Creme Egg McFlurry once a week–hahahaha).

Also, great job on your dress! Alterations can be expensive; I had mine altered by a woman who works out of her home; she had to take the dress up about 4 inches, and it only cost $50. I say only, because apparently that is a great deal in wedding world.

    Have a great weekend!

    Amanda,
Our wedding is on June 19th. The alterations for the hem started at $75 according to the alteration chart at the store. And if you have beading at the bottom of the skirt (like mine does) the hemming charge sky rockets because they have to remove the beading and then replace it after it is hemmed.
I am glad your wedding was wonderful. I hope mine is as well.

So exciting that it is coming up! And there is also a nice, peaceful calm afterwards:). Mine had beading all along the bottom, and it was scalloped as well (is that the correct verbage? Basically it was wavy all around). I will be posting photos to my photo widget as soon as I get the CD from our photographer, so check back if you get the chance!

I bought a David Bridal’s special for $125 and my mom made my veil for $40 of materials…I ended up being gorgeous and frugal. And the calm after the wedding is awesome!

My frugal confession was that my husband and I intentionally waiting until after Valentine’s Day to stock up on boxes of chocolate for the rest of the year. He likes the cremes and milk chocolate and I like the nougats and dark chocolate so it works out really well!

Hello Budgeting in the Fun Stuff!

Great find on your wedding gown–my sister made my veil as well. Also, great idea stocking up on candies after Valentine’s Day. That’s what Frugal Decadence is all about–not doing without, just not paying full price:)
