Article Round-up: Bond Edition
Posted on | July 20, 2010 | 4 Comments
Hello Frugal Confessions Readers! I’d like to do an article round up on that highlights Bonds this week, as this type of investment has gotten a lot of coverage in the news lately.
My Journey to Millions is excited about the possibility of passive income and tax savings through high yield municipal bonds. Darwin’s Finance has a great article all about municipal bonds, including both pros and cons. Do you own any of these, and how have you fared?
I recently completed a series of saving bond articles at the My Dollar Plan blog (I am a staff writer there), including comparing different types of treasury securities, how to buy I Bonds, and how to redeem savings bonds.

Scott and I both have some savings bonds in our safe that were given to us by grandparents many years ago.. I think in total we have about $1200, and I haven’t even checked to see if they are fully mature yet. Basically we forget about them and consider them “back-up back-up money”. I tend to think that they would make a good start to a child’s college savings account someday, but we really don’t have any specific plans for them at the moment other than collecting dust in our safe. I actually keep forgetting they are there… your post reminded me again

Aurora: Hehehehe! When we bought our first home last year, my Mom came to visit and brought us a $400 savings bond to cash in! It was quite a nice (and needed) surprise.
